2017-18 Requirements for Our JMG Bud (3rd - 5th) Students

Students can be certified in each age group club.  Each club has their own requirements, each a bit more challenging to earn.  See each club heading for their requirements.

From October to the first part of February we will be working in the JMG curriculum, Wildlife Gardener.  If your student attends all of the meeting they will earn a special certification from JMG as a Wildlife Gardner.  If your student has to miss a meeting, please check with Ms. Tammie on ways to make up that lesson.  This is in addition to the requirements for regular JMG certification.

All requirements for each will be listed below.  Our club offers many hands on learning activities through the year with a huge focus on service.  Below you will find the requirements for all Buds (3rd-5th) to become Certified Junior Master Gardeners at this level.

Special Wildlife Gardener Certification (These will be done in our meetings)

If your student misses a meeting, please check with Ms. Tammie on how to make up an activity.
*Complete 12 activities from the Wildlife Gardener curriculum
*Complete one Life Skill/Career Exploration activity related to topic.
*Complete one Community Service Project related to topic.

Regular JMG Certification (Bud's level)
It is typical for a student to take a two year cycle to certify, but many have done it within only one year.  Once certified they keep coming to the club and can still earn other special awards each year.
*Attend four garden/nature/wildlife/conservation related field trips.
This can be with the club, another club, on your own, or with a group.

*Attend five extra classes related to garden/nature/wildlife/conservation.
This is a class outside of the normal JMG meeting.  This can be Jr Lunch &
Learn, classes offered at the library, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, UT
Gardens, Wilderness Wildlife Week/Keep Sevier Beautiful, etc.
*Attend ten regular Junior Master Gardener meetings.

(We have 14 regular meetings for 2017-18)
    *Complete 12 service hours.
These can be with the JMG group, another group, or on your own as long as
related to gardening, wildlife, nature, or conservation.  CANNOT be a normal
chore or something you are paid to do.

Below you will also find a printable version of all the forms your Bud student will need for the 2017-18 year for record keeping.  It is a great idea to print this and keep in the binder.  Any changes will be announced.
