The group meets the first and third Wednesday of the month from 4:00-5:00 at the UT Extension Office. All students ages 7-14 are invited to attend,
at UT Extension 752 Old Knoxville Highway, Sevierville.
A growing season is the period of the year when crops and other plants grow successfully. The length of a growing season varies from place to place. In temperate regions, which have warm summers and cold winters, the length of the growing season depends mostly on temperature. Although it can be tempting to get out in the garden on the first warm spring day, it’s important to wait until the proper planting time. In the meantime, there’s plenty to do to prepare for the upcoming growing season. JMG will begin its Spring session by looking at how to identify soil types and how to add amendments for better soil. We will be planting native plants from seed and tending them as they grow, while continuing to learn about the plant cycle and best practices for tending a garden.
